I’m alive and well. 8am Tuesday morning, depression setting in big time because I’m sitting at work. I’m facing the dilemma that we have all face, time moving too quickly. Something I waited and anticipate for long months has come and gone. Why isn’t life like a vacation? Not sure, I know a select few in this life can live like that, thou shalt not covet I suppose. Anyway, that was a stupid way of saying I had an amazing time this weekend and I’m sad that it’s over, obviously. Everything was amazing and we had no troubles with anything or anybody. It took us about 3 hours to get to our destination, although in actual miles, it was only about 110 miles. Passing through the border at TJ is quite the experience. It was a beautiful drive along the coast for most of the trip. The house we stayed in was amazing as well, with a huge brick deck out the back with the ocean right in front of us. It was a bit too windy the first full day (Saturday), but other than that we had sun and good times. Saturday night we went out to dinner and a club like place in Ensenada. That was pretty crazy, just being in that different atmosphere and whatnot. Sunday we went to this place called La Bufadora, which literally means blowhole. There is this weird shaped part of the coast where the tide hits the rocks and blows water straight up in the air and makes a “blowing” sound. They have this long market area where they sell all kinds of crap. We walked around and negotiated price on everything (on a side note, in Ensenada, I even negotiated a better price for some cookies at Subway, everything is negotiable, anywhere, it’s crazy). Tracey got a fake Prada bag, and I bought a nice selection of Cubans (which were not as cheap as I wanted them to be) and successfully got them across the border.
We didn’t even have to stop when passing back to the states, they just waved us on through. We figured, between the 6 of us on the trip, we all ate around 80 or 90 tacos total. Nothing can replace authentic Mexican tacos. We had fish, shrimp, chicken, beef and dog tacos. Ok, not really the dog, not that we know of at least. It was just so nice to relax like that. Even though we live by the beach and in one of the best climates in the country, there is still something about getting away from home and from work and being away from everything. I love Mexico, the people are so friendly and sweet. From all the mission trips I took there when I was younger, it’s always been special to me. Hard to believe we haven’t found our way down there before this weekend, since it’s been almost 2 years of living out here. It was just a great time with great people. We got Mary coming in on Saturday and more good times ahead. At least it’s a short week.
