More Than A Porpoise, More Than A Man, A Manimal

I want a Porpoise who will laugh for no one else

Last night I made a run up to the trendy LA neighborhood of Silver Lake for one of Lassie Foundation’s last shows ever. They opened up for Minus the Bear, who turned out to be quite an amazing live band. Getting home at 3am was rough, but at least the drive back home is more interesting than all those late night drives I used to take returning home from shows in Columbus/Cleveland/Detroit back to BG. It’s very refreshing to have 5 or 6 lanes almost to myself driving home and not having to deal with all the late night truckers on two lane highways. In the recent Spin magazine, they have an article touting Silver Lake as the next big music scene. This guy does not agree with the story and said they’ve been hearing that claim since 1995. Why does there need to be a next big scene? San Diego got that label somewhere back in the 90s when Rocket from the Crypt and others like them were gaining some popularity. Who cares, if they are a good band, then that’s all I need to know. I think the whole scene thing means some bands that actually suck get some play just because they live in that scene. Who cares. It’s Seattle’s fault I guess?

Speaking of music, check out the archive of music performances on this local SD music show. There are some good gems in there.

Doesn’t look good for Arrested Development.

Lots of good C-town stuff going on. Cavs clinched a playoff spot. And the Tribe get to open the season on ESPN.
