Your new place looks cool Justin, congrats. It’s cool to live downtown BG. We always liked being close to everything. I just picked up a live Thrills cd recorded at South by Southwest at Tower Records in Austin back in February (and I bought it at Tower Records, actually). The Thrills have just been added to Lollapalooza, and the Pixies are supposed to play the LA one in July, might have to pull that off somehow.
I have 4 weeks left at my current job. As I mentioned when I started this contract, I said it was a 3 month contract, and the 3 months are almost up. As of now, the company is not planning on keeping me on or extending the contract, but this could possibly change, but does not seem likely. It’s clear to me and the head writer here that there is more than enough work for two people, but the business people who do the hiring are not seeing it that way. In the words of Liam Lynch, “Whatever”. There is actually a good possibility that 3 to 9 months down the road, the company would be more in a position to hire someone full-time as a second tech writer, and I’m told they would ask me first, which is great, but I won’t wait around for that, because I’ve heard that one before. I’ve been in full-fledged job seeking mode for two weeks now anyway and have some good leads. I’ll keep you posted. It’s weird to work a contract job mentally. I like that there is a finality to the job I’m doing, that when I’m finished, the project is done and I never have to think about it. At Scantron I would do a project, and a few months later I would have to go back and update it and things just lingered. But I don’t like the finality of a contract because yer done and on the street again, looking for work I’m not really stressed at all about it though, if I’m laid off again for a bit this summer, I’ll enjoy it and spend more time with Tracey since she will be off for the summer. I don’t think that will happen though, I’m pretty confident that I’m going to get something new pretty quick here.
