Today I finshed the second week of my new job at Illumina. I'm still getting up to speed on things and next week I go through a full week training on all the lab stuff my company does. Part of my orientation including a section explaining that we do not clone, we do not test on animals and we do not do any stem cell research. This was all explained in the context of possible "fanatics" not understanding what we do (genetic research to cure diseases) and sending bomb threats. The good news is that Illumina has never had a bomb threat. Besides the great stuff I get to work on, they have a basketball court onsite. I get to show scientists what a baller raised on the mean streets of Bowling Green can do.
